Bushra Bibi Moves IHC for Urgent Eye Examination and Treatment

1. IHC Asked to Ensure Bushra Bibi's Medical Care

ISLAMABAD: (Staff Reporter) – Bushra Bibi, wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC), seeking an immediate examination by an eye specialist and permission to receive treatment from doctors of her choice at her own expense amid concerns over her deteriorating eyesight.

A miscellaneous application has been filed in connection with the pending appeals in the £190 million corruption case. The petition seeks a fresh and comprehensive medical report from Adiala jail authorities, including details of her diagnosis, treatment and overall health condition.

It also requests the court to direct prison authorities to produce all relevant medical records, arrange an immediate examination by an ophthalmologist and ensure appropriate medical facilities. Bushra Bibi has further sought permission to receive medical treatment from her personal doctors at her own expense.

Meanwhile, Barrister Salman Safdar, counsel for Imran Khan, has submitted an affidavit before the IHC detailing his recent meeting with the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi at Adiala jail and expressing concern over her eyesight.

According to the affidavit, jail authorities informed the counsel on October 31 that a meeting with Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi had been scheduled for November 2 at 3:30pm. The meeting began at 4pm and lasted around 40 minutes.

Barrister Safdar stated that Bushra Bibi was wearing exceptionally dark-tinted glasses during the meeting. He said her condition appeared distressing when she removed the glasses at the request of Imran Khan and the counsel.

According to the affidavit, Bushra Bibi told him that she could not tolerate sunlight or artificial light and was unable to open her eyes without protective glasses. Her eyesight appeared to have deteriorated significantly, raising concerns about the extent of her vision impairment.

The affidavit further stated that Imran Khan also appeared concerned about his wife’s worsening eyesight.

Bushra Bibi reportedly informed the counsel that doctors had diagnosed her with a “mature cataract” and advised that another eye surgery would be required around November 15. She underwent her first eye surgery on April 18 and was subsequently returned to Adiala jail.

She also reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with hygiene conditions inside the prison and the medical treatment being provided to her.

Barrister Safdar said Bushra Bibi had specifically requested that her medical examination and treatment be carried out by her personal doctors. He assured her that he would raise the matter before the court.

Through the application, Bushra Bibi has urged the IHC to intervene and ensure immediate specialist medical attention, expressing concern that any delay could further affect her eyesight.
