Pakistan Forecasts Widespread Monsoon Rains Across Several Regions

ISLAMABAD: (News Desk) — The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast a fresh spell of monsoon rains across several parts of the country, with wet weather expected in northern and central regions through early September.

According to the latest forecast, a new westerly weather system is expected to influence the upper parts of Pakistan from August 31, with the system likely to remain active until September 5.

Several areas of upper Punjab, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Jhelum, Chakwal, Lahore and Sialkot, are expected to receive rain from August 29 to September 5. Rain is also forecast in parts of central and southern Punjab between September 1 and 5.

Rain Forecast for KP, GB and Kashmir

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain is expected in most districts from August 29 to September 5, including Peshawar, Swat, Dir and Chitral.

Meanwhile, most areas of Sindh and Balochistan are expected to experience hot and humid conditions during the forecast period.

The weather department has predicted intermittent heavy rainfall in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, including Diamer, Astore, Skardu and Hunza, from August 30 to September 6.

Rain is also expected across several areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, including Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Bagh, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur, through September 6.

Urban Flooding, Flash Floods and Landslides Feared

The Meteorological Department has warned that persistent rainfall could trigger urban flooding in major cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala and Mardan.

Mountainous areas could face additional risks, including flash floods, flooding in rivers and streams, and landslides, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.

Authorities have advised travellers and tourists to avoid unnecessary journeys to vulnerable areas and remain updated about the latest weather forecasts.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has also directed district administrations and relevant departments to take precautionary measures and remain on high alert amid the risk of urban flooding in Mardan and Swabi from August 31 to September 5.

Authorities have been urged to ensure timely preparedness and maintain emergency response arrangements as the new spell of rain approaches.
