ICC Fines Pakistan 10%, Sri Lanka 5% for Slow Over-Rates

Shaheen Afridi, Kusal Mendis Accept ICC Sanctions

ISLAMABAD: (Sports Desk) The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined Pakistan and Sri Lanka for maintaining slow over-rates during the opening match of the ongoing tri-nation ODI series.

According to the ICC, Pakistan were fined 10 per cent of their match fee, while Sri Lanka received a penalty of five per cent for failing to complete their overs within the stipulated time.

The ICC said Pakistan were two overs behind the required rate, while Sri Lanka fell one over short of the target.

Pakistan captain Shaheen Afridi and Sri Lanka skipper Kusal Mendis admitted the offences and accepted the proposed sanctions, the ICC said.

The opening match of the tri-nation series was played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday, where Pakistan secured a comfortable victory over Sri Lanka.

The penalties were imposed under the ICC’s playing conditions relating to minimum over-rate offences.
