Pakistan Falls to Eighth in ICC Rankings After Bangladesh Whitewash

Pakistan's Points Drop to 16, With Losses Affecting Their Championship Prospects

LAHORE – After being whitewashed in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, Pakistan has dropped 24 vital points in the ICC Test Championship, slipping to eighth place in the rankings.

Pakistan’s prospects for reaching the championship final have significantly diminished. In contrast, Bangladesh’s surprising success has propelled them to fourth in the standings.

Currently, India leads the rankings based on average points per match won, followed by defending champions Australia in second place. New Zealand holds third, with England in fifth, South Africa sixth, Sri Lanka seventh, and the West Indies at the bottom in ninth place.

The final of the championship will be held at Lord’s, featuring the top two teams from the rankings.

THE POINT GAME: Pakistan has won only two of their seven matches in the championship, accumulating 16 points with an average of 19.05. While not entirely out of contention, their chances of making it to the final stages appear slim.

In the ICC Test Championship, teams earn 12 points for a win, six points for a tie, and four points for a draw. Pakistan has also lost eight points due to slow over rates, with each slow over costing one point.

South Africa won the inaugural Test Championship, while India and Australia have each won it twice. Pakistan, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies have each won it once.

Pakistan’s poor performance was marked by sloppy fielding, ineffective field settings, and lackluster spin bowling, revealing significant skill gaps.

SHAN MASOOD ADMITS MISTAKES: Pakistan’s Test captain, Shan Masood, expressed his disappointment over the historic whitewash by Bangladesh. In a post-match interview, Masood acknowledged that Pakistan made numerous errors during the series and praised the Bangladeshi team for their disciplined play.
