Pakistan condemns Israel’s E1 settlement plan at UN
Pakistan criticises Israel over West Bank settlement expansion

Addressing the UN Security Council, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar, said the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories continued to worsen due to alleged violations of international law, expanding Israeli settlements and increasing settler violence in the occupied West Bank.

Referring to the UN Secretary-General’s latest report, the ambassador expressed concern over the approval of 4,750 new housing units in the occupied Palestinian territories, saying the move further undermined international efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful and lasting solution.
He also criticised the withholding of financial funds from the Palestinian Authority, describing it as an attempt to weaken Palestinian institutions and undermine governance.
The E1 settlement project, approved by Israel last year, envisages the construction of 3,401 housing units for Israeli settlers between the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. The proposal has drawn international concern over its potential impact on the prospects of a contiguous and viable Palestinian state.
