Pakistan Beats Maldives 3-0, Diamond Jubilee Glory
Pakistan Beats Maldives 3-0 in Diamond Jubilee Football Tournament
Karachi – (Web Desk) – Pakistan beats Maldives 3-0 in Diamond Jubilee tournament, ending a historic 961-day wait for an international win. The Green Shirts delivered a strong second-half performance in Male on Thursday.
The match started slowly with no goals before halftime. But Pakistan came out stronger in the second half and took control of the game.
Young Umar Nawaz broke the deadlock in the 54th minute. It was his first international goal and only his second appearance for the national team.
Nawaz carries a deeply personal story. His brother Haris was among the martyrs of the 2014 Army Public School attack in Peshawar. Another brother, Ahmed, was badly injured. The family moved to the United Kingdom in 2015, where Umar began playing football and eventually fought his way into Pakistan’s national squad.
Abdul Samad Arshad made it 2-0 in the 84th minute. Three minutes later, Harun Hamid sealed the win with Pakistan’s third goal.
This was Pakistan’s first victory over Maldives since 1991. Their last international win before this had come against Cambodia in a FIFA World Cup qualifier in October 2023.
Pakistan now sits at the top of the table with four points from two matches. The Green Shirts face Afghanistan on June 7. A place in the tournament final on June 10 is well within reach.
