Kundi Urges Centre to Release KP Governor Rs160 Billion Promised by PM
Faisal Karim Kundi says peace and security come first, promising better police equipment, a welfare package and zero tolerance for corruption.
Peshawar – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – The KP governor Rs160 billion request was made on Friday, when Governor Faisal Karim Kundi asked the federal government to release the money without delay. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had already announced the amount to help keep law and order in the province.
Speaking at a press conference in Peshawar, Kundi said peace and security are the top goals of the provincial administration. He said development and prosperity can only follow once calm returns.
He was joined by Samar Haroon Bilour, the Adviser on Information and Public Relations.
Kundi promised that police and other law enforcement agencies would get the equipment they need to fight terrorism. He said the province faces a serious militant threat, and its forces must be ready.
He also spoke about police families. A welfare package will be announced for personnel whose salaries have not gone up for years.
The governor said the needs of the Frontier Constabulary are also being reviewed. The force was recently renamed the Federal Constabulary.
His comments came a day after the Prime Minister chaired a provincial apex committee meeting in Peshawar. Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir and senior federal and provincial officials attended.
Kundi said the Centre has agreed to provide the money sought for the province’s development. He added that more support will come if it is needed.
“The Centre has assured us that Rs160 billion will be released to them immediately,” he said.
On governance, the governor said there will be zero tolerance for corruption. He also named irregularities in government contracts and politically influenced transfers and postings.
He promised action against any officials found guilty of wrongdoing in the handling of wheat at the Azakhel warehouse.
Kundi also called on all political parties to work together on security and development. He said the provincial government will present its demands to the Centre through dialogue and argument, not confrontation.
Samar Haroon Bilour said the fight against militancy cannot be won without stronger police and Counter-Terrorism Department capabilities. She described police personnel as heroes of the province.
According to her, they need modern weapons, tracking systems, vehicles and advanced defensive gear. She said the federal government has promised extra financial and other support wherever it is needed.
Bilour said the apex committee talked about both security and development. The provincial team put its demands before the federal government.
One idea was to open Daanish schools in underserved areas, especially Bajaur. The aim is to give children access to modern education and training.
The development plan also includes better connectivity, fixes for traffic and governance problems, and IT hubs and training centres for young people.
A tracking system will also be introduced for development projects. It will record when work begins, when it should end and when it is actually finished.
Bilour welcomed the governor’s focus on repairing Peshawar’s damaged roads. Digging work across the city has caused daily problems for residents.
She rejected the idea that conditions in the province are normal. She said the deaths of security personnel and others show that the threat of militancy remains.
Bilour expressed sympathy over a recent incident and said the administration will stand with those affected. She also called for a firm response to attacks on people she described as heroes of the Pashtun community.
