Harry Brook’s 202 Smashes Kirsten’s 30-Year-Old ODI Record in Pakistan

England captain hits 21 fours and 10 sixes in Rawalpindi as his side posts a huge 429-4 in 50 overs

Harry Brook – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – Harry Brook’s 202 is now the highest individual score in a men’s ODI played in Pakistan. The old record was 188, scored by South Africa’s Gary Kirsten against the UAE in Rawalpindi in 1996.

Kirsten’s record stood for 30 years. Brook broke it with ease.

Other big scores in Pakistan include Viv Richards’ 181 against Sri Lanka in Karachi in 1987 and Fakhar Zaman’s 180 against New Zealand in Rawalpindi in 2023. Ibrahim Zadran’s 177 against England in Lahore in 2025 also sits high on the list.

Best score by an England batter

Brook also set a new England record. No England player had scored more than Ben Stokes’ 182 against New Zealand in 2023.

Jason Roy (180 against Australia in 2018) and Alex Hales (171 against Pakistan in 2016) are the other names near the top. Brook has now moved ahead of all of them.

The speed of the innings was just as special. Brook reached 200 in only 114 balls, the quickest double century in ODI history by balls faced.

India’s Shubman Gill held the previous mark. He reached 200 in 117 balls against the West Indies in Guwahati on September 30, 2026. Ishan Kishan, Glenn Maxwell and Pathum Nissanka also appear on the list, but all of them took longer.

A first for England captains

Brook is also the first England captain to score an ODI double century. He is only the fourth captain in the format to reach 200 in an ODI innings.

Gill leads that list with an unbeaten 223. Virender Sehwag made 219 and Rohit Sharma scored an unbeaten 208. Brook’s 202 now sits fourth among all captains.

Among England captains, the next best score is Andrew Strauss’ 158 against India in 2011. Brook beat it by a huge margin.

A day to remember

The 27-year-old made batting look simple. His power hitting cleared the boundary ten times, and his timing brought plenty of fours through the gaps.

England’s total of 429-4 gave the bowlers a mountain of runs to defend. Few teams in the world can chase such a target.

Fans will talk about this innings for a long time. Harry Brook’s 202 has already earned its place among the great ODI knocks.

The England captain has shown that he can lead with the bat as well as with his plans. Cricket lovers in Pakistan saw history made at their own ground.
