OGDC Starts Gas Production at Bitrism East-1 in Khairpur, Sindh

The new well is adding 7 MMSCFD of gas and 200 barrels of condensate to Pakistan’s local energy supply.

Islamabad – (Choudhry Mudassar Iqbal) – Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has started producing gas and condensate from a new well in Khairpur, Sindh. The well is called Bitrism East-1, and its output is now reaching the national gas network.

The company says the well is giving 7.0 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, also known as MMSCFD. It is also producing 200 barrels of condensate every day. Both are coming from the Basal Sands.

OGDC expects the numbers to rise slowly. The flow of a new well needs some time to settle, and production usually grows as it becomes stable.

OGDC announced this discovery on October 1, 2025. The gas and condensate were found in the Massive and Basal Sands of the Lower Goru Formation.

Since that announcement, the company has worked to bring the find into production. The Bitrism East-1 well is an exploratory well, so getting it online is a big step forward.

Flowline Built With In-House Resources

To speed up the work, OGDC used its own in-house resources. The team laid a flowline of about 28 kilometres. The pipe is 8 inches wide and links the well to the Sinjhoro Plant.

At the Sinjhoro Plant, the gas is processed and made ready for use. After that, it goes into the network of Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL). This adds to the gas that Pakistan produces at home.

OGDC is the operator of the Bitrism Exploration Licence. It holds a 77.5 percent working interest in the block.

The remaining 22.5 percent belongs to Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL), which is OGDC’s joint venture partner.

Why This Matters for Pakistan

Gas is needed in homes, factories and power plants. Every new local source helps ease pressure on the supply system.

Even a modest amount like 7 MMSCFD is useful, because it comes from a source that is close to existing infrastructure. It can be processed and sent into the network without long delays.

Condensate has its own value. It is a light liquid that comes out along with natural gas, and it can be turned into fuel products. So the 200 barrels a day make the project more valuable.

Focus on New Discoveries

The start of production from Bitrism East-1 shows OGDC’s focus on turning new discoveries into real supply. Finding gas is only half the job. The other half is building the pipes and facilities so that people can actually use it.

By adding more domestic hydrocarbons, the company is supporting Pakistan’s energy security. More local production also means less need to depend on outside sources.
