Two Hydropower Workers Rescued Alive From Flooded Tunnel
Nepal – (Special Correspondent/Web Desk) – The Nepal tunnel rescue gave families across the country a reason to smile on Friday, as two trapped workers were finally pulled out alive. The men had been stuck for nine days following a massive glacier and mudslide disaster that has claimed over 1,200 lives.
The two survivors, identified as mechanical foreman Sanjay Sah and mechanical supervisor Kabir Maharjan, were found inside a tunnel at the Upper Trishuli 3A Hydropower Station. Energy Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha’s office shared the update publicly.
Officials believe the disaster started on August 26 when a glacier collapsed near the upper part of the Trishuli River, trapping hundreds of hydropower workers in nearby tunnels.
An aide close to the minister said Maharjan currently cannot move his arms or legs, while Sah’s condition is described as stable. Both men are now headed to a Kathmandu hospital for treatment.
Kabir’s brother, Amir, said he found out through the news before receiving any official word, adding that his whole family feels relieved.
The Nepal Army confirmed medical care is underway, and search efforts continue at the site.
