New York – (Special Correspondent/Web Desk) – In his Shehbaz Sharif UNGA speech, the prime minister raised tough regional issues before world leaders. He spoke about water rights, Kashmir, terrorism, and the ongoing crisis in Gaza.
Shehbaz called the Straits of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandeb vital economic lifelines. He urged all sides to keep these waters open for trade, not turn them into war zones. His message was clear: diplomacy must win over conflict.
On the Indus Waters Treaty, the PM took a firm stand. He said any move to block or divert Pakistan’s river water would count as an act of war. He added that India’s decision to suspend the treaty has no legal ground. The treaty, he said, remains valid and binding.
Kashmir also featured strongly in his speech. He called it Pakistan’s “jugular vein” and pushed for a fair resolution through the long-promised UN plebiscite. He also credited US President Trump for helping ease tensions after the May 2025 conflict with India.
The PM didn’t shy away from tough talk on terrorism either. He shared that Pakistan has lost close to 100,000 lives and over $150 billion fighting militant groups. He called out the TTP and BLA for using Afghan soil to plan attacks, urging Kabul to act.
Gaza was another major highlight. Shehbaz condemned Israeli actions against civilians and renewed Pakistan’s support for an independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. He also spoke against violence in Lebanon and Syria, calling for it to stop immediately.
Overall, his speech painted a picture of a region under pressure, seeking justice, peace, and fair treatment on the world stage.
