Marco Jansen’s stunning 7-13 sends Sri Lanka crashing to 42 in record-low test total

With a commanding lead of 149 runs, South Africa is firmly in control of the match, setting the stage for a potential victory.

Durban: South African fast bowler Marco Jansen produced a sensational bowling performance, taking 7 wickets for just 13 runs to bowl Sri Lanka out for a record-low total of 42 in the first Test at Kingsmead, Durban, on Thursday.

Jansen’s brilliance helped dismantle the Sri Lankan lineup in just 83 balls, making it the second-shortest completed innings in Test history. Sri Lanka’s previous low was 71 runs against Pakistan in 1994, but today’s total marked a new low for the island nation. On a seam-friendly pitch, only two Sri Lankan batsmen managed to reach double figures. Kamindu Mendis top-scored with 13 runs before falling to Jansen, while tailender Lahiru Kumara remained unbeaten on 10.

With a commanding lead of 149 runs, South Africa is firmly in control of the match, setting the stage for a potential victory.
