ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – Lionel Messi has raised fresh injury concerns just weeks before the World Cup after medical tests confirmed muscle fatigue in his left hamstring, according to his club Inter Miami CF.
The Major League Soccer side issued a statement on Monday following Messi’s early exit during a thrilling 6-4 win over Philadelphia Union, where he left the field in the 73rd minute after appearing to feel discomfort in his left leg.
Although the 38-year-old forward briefly signaled concern on the pitch, he was later seen walking normally as he headed to the locker room, easing immediate fears of a serious injury.
Inter Miami confirmed that medical examinations revealed an “overload associated with muscle fatigue” in Messi’s left hamstring. However, the club did not provide a specific recovery timeline, stating that his return will depend on his clinical progress.
The uncertainty comes at a crucial time for defending champions Argentina national football team, who are preparing for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, starting June 11.
Messi And Ronaldo Near Historic Sixth World Cup Appearance
Argentina’s opening match is scheduled for June 16 against Algeria in Kansas City, with the squad announcement expected in the coming week.
Lionel Messi has carefully managed his playing time since joining Inter Miami CF in 2023, often being rested during congested fixture periods to preserve fitness.
While Messi has not officially confirmed participation in what could be a record-equalling sixth World Cup appearance, he is widely expected to lead Argentina’s campaign if fit.
The team will also play pre-tournament friendlies against Honduras on June 6 and Iceland on June 9 as part of their final preparations.
