Lahore Airport Closed 5AM to 8AM During Monsoon Season
LAHORE AIRPORT – (Web Desk) – Lahore airport closed 5am to 8am is now official news for the next two and a half months. The Pakistan Airports Authority announced on Wednesday that both runways at the Allama Iqbal International Airport will shut down for three hours every morning, starting July 5 and running until September 15.
The move is a safety step, not a technical fault. Officials say bird activity around the airport rises sharply during the monsoon months, especially below 3,000 feet, which raises the risk for planes taking off or landing.
Pilots have already been told to stay extra alert during approach and departure in the coming weeks. Airlines have also been asked to carry extra fuel, in case flights need to wait in the air or on the ground longer than usual.
The good news for travellers is that flights will keep running as normal outside the 5am to 8am window. So daytime and evening schedules should not see major changes.
There is also a safety net built in. If an emergency landing is needed during the closed hours, the runway will still be made available right away.
This kind of temporary closure is not new for Lahore. The airport has taken similar steps in past monsoon seasons too, as bird strikes remain one of the biggest seasonal risks for flights in the city.
Passengers with early morning flights out of Lahore should check with their airline for any schedule updates before heading to the airport.
