India Chase 406 as Gill Smashes Record Double Century

Guwahati: (Sports Desk) – India defeated the West Indies by eight wickets in the second One-Day International (ODI), chasing a target of 406 runs in 43.3 overs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Captain Shubman Gill smashed an unbeaten 223 off 133 balls, while Rohit Sharma scored 101 off 75 deliveries as India completed one of the highest successful run chases in ODI history. India finished at 406 for two, with 39 balls to spare.

Earlier, the West Indies posted a formidable 405 for seven in their allotted 50 overs, powered by centuries from John Campbell, captain Shai Hope and Amir Jangoo.

Campbell scored 101 off 68 balls, Hope made 104 off 94 deliveries, while Jangoo struck 114 off just 77 balls, including 13 fours and three sixes. The three centuries marked the sixth occasion in ODI history that three batters from the same team scored hundreds in a single innings.

India’s bowlers faced a difficult outing as the visitors maintained a strong scoring rate throughout their innings. Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav were among the Indian bowlers to claim two wickets each.

Gill and Rohit Lead India’s Record Chase

India’s response was dominated by Gill and Rohit, who put together a 255-run opening partnership. Rohit reached his century before being dismissed for 101, while Gill continued his innings to finish unbeaten on 223.
