Gunmen Kill Sikh Couple Inside Mardan Gurdwara in Pakistan
Sikh Couple Killed in Mardan Gurdwara Attack Shocks Pakistan
Mardan – (Web Desk) – Gunmen shot dead a Sikh couple killed Mardan gurdwara on Wednesday, sparking outrage across Pakistan and beyond. The victims, 70-year-old Jagannath and his wife Asma Wanti, had spent the last 20 years caring for the gurdwara in Babu Mohallah, Khwaja Ganj Bazaar.
Armed attackers entered the worship place and opened fire on the elderly couple before fleeing the scene. Rescue teams arrived quickly and shifted the bodies to the District Headquarters Hospital.
Police said a guard was posted outside the gurdwara, but the attack happened inside. Two policemen were suspended after the incident. Investigators are now using CCTV footage and modern forensic tools to trace the killers.
A joint investigation team has been formed and a case registered under the anti-terrorism law. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
The Akal Takht, the highest Sikh religious seat, strongly condemned the killings. Its head called on Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister to take swift action and punish those responsible.
This is not the first such incident. Three Sikh men were killed in Peshawar and Lahore in 2023. Pakistan’s Sikh community, numbering around 16,000, continues to face isolated but deadly acts of violence.
