Islamabad-First Polio Case in 16 Years Reported in Islamabad’s Union Council 4. In a troubling turn of events, the first polio case in 16 years has been detected in Union Council number 4 of Islamabad.
This new case represents a significant setback in the country’s ongoing battle against polio, raising the total number of cases reported this year to 17 nationwide.
Ayesha Raza Farooq, a health official, confirmed the resurgence of the virus in the capital after more than a decade of absence.
In response, Anwar-ul-Haq, Coordinator of the National Emergency Operations Center, emphasized, “We are accelerating our efforts to ensure every child receives the polio vaccine,” highlighting the government’s renewed dedication to eradicating the disease.
Health authorities are enhancing immunization campaigns to prevent additional cases and combat the continued threat of polio to children across the nation.
