Balochistan Health Officials Expose Fake Polio Vaccination Scheme
Officials from the Balochistan Health Department have revealed that some parents, in collusion with polio workers, avoided giving polio drops to their children while ensuring that false vaccination marks were made on their fingers.
The health department has taken action against over 500 workers involved in this fraudulent vaccination practice.
Balochistan, which had been polio-free for two years, has recently seen a resurgence of the virus, with 12 new cases reported in the past eight months. This alarming development has prompted the provincial health department to issue a warning about the situation.
Quetta Administration Unveils Comprehensive Plan to Eradicate Polio
Inamul Haque, Coordinator of the Balochistan Emergency Operation Center, identified migration and parental refusals as significant challenges to polio eradication, along with the impact of the fake vaccination campaigns.
The increase in polio cases has led to the deaths of three children, raising concerns about the heightened risk of mortality among affected children. Dr. Aftab Kakar, Polio Campaign Technical Officer, announced that in response to the surge in cases, the health department will launch a special anti-polio campaign across Balochistan starting September 9.
