Islamabad: (News Desk) – Federal Minister for Water Resources Mian Muhammad Mueen Wattoo, accompanied by WAPDA Chairman Lieutenant General Muhammad Saeed (Retd), visited key sites of the Diamer-Bhasha Dam and Dasu Hydropower Project to review construction progress.

The federal minister was given detailed briefings on the ongoing construction activities at both projects. Interacting with WAPDA teams, consultants and contractors, he highlighted the importance of the Diamer-Bhasha Dam and Dasu Hydropower Project for Pakistan’s water, food and energy security.

He directed the concerned teams to make all-out efforts to ensure the timely completion of both projects while maintaining the required quality standards.

During his visit to the Dasu Hydropower Project, the minister also inaugurated a bridge at Barseen. The 225-metre-long reinforced concrete (RCC) arch bridge is part of the 20.4-kilometre-long alternative Karakoram Highway (KKH-I), being constructed under the Dasu Hydropower Project in accordance with China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) standards.

The KKH-I is expected to be opened to traffic in February 2027.

Upon completion, the Diamer-Bhasha Dam will have a total water storage capacity of 8.1 million acre-feet and generate 4,500 megawatts of clean, low-cost hydropower.

The Dasu Hydropower Project is a run-of-the-river scheme with a planned total generation capacity of 4,320 megawatts. It will be completed in two stages, each designed to produce 2,160 megawatts of electricity.
