PTI Vows to Seek Reversal of Emergency and Governor’s Rule
Barrister Gohar Says New Provinces Require Public Consent and Consensus
ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) — Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has said the party’s parliamentary group will work to secure the withdrawal of the state of emergency and Governor’s Rule.
Speaking to the media outside Parliament, Barrister Gohar said around 70 members of the National Assembly and Senate attended a joint meeting of the PTI parliamentary party. He said participants expressed confidence in the party’s leadership, including both opposition leaders, and appreciated the role of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.
He said the parliamentary party strongly condemned the imposition of the state of emergency and Governor’s Rule in the province. The meeting also discussed the political vacuum created by Governor’s Rule, with recommendations forwarded to the two opposition leaders for consideration and finalisation after their approval.
Barrister Gohar said the PTI parliamentary party would actively pursue the reversal of both measures.
Clarifying the party’s position on the proposed 28th Constitutional Amendment, he said the matter was neither on the meeting’s agenda nor discussed by participants. He added that no proposal or decision regarding the amendment had been presented.
The PTI chairman cautioned against rushing through legislation, warning that hasty decisions could trigger further political and constitutional crises. He also stressed that new provinces should not be created without the consent of the people concerned, adding that any such move required public support and national consensus.
