Fawad invites opposition to sit with govt on electoral reforms

Staff Reporter – Islamabad:

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry has once again invited the opposition parties to sit with the government on electoral and other reforms.

Talking to the media persons outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in Islamabad on Tuesday, he said that a joint session of the parliament had been summoned tomorrow to get passed the electoral reforms bills.

Chaudhry said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government would also welcome the suggestions of the opposition parties.

“EVM [Electronic voting machine] and electoral reforms are not personal agenda of PTI and [PM] Imran Khan, it is a national agenda. Reforms are necessary, we are passing this bill tomorrow. All the allies have expressed full confidence in the leadership of the prime minister.”

“I will ask the opposition to come and sit with us in the joint session of the parliament tomorrow and consider these reforms with open heart,” said Chaudhry.

He said that the allies of PTI had assured their support and expressed their confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Commenting on The News report that highlighted an accusation against the former chief justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar, the minister said that it was highly appropriate that the Islamabad High Court (IHC) took notice of the former chief justice Gilgit-Baltistan Rana Shamim’s affidavit.
