ISLAMABAD: (Sports Reporter)- Pakistan’s Fatima Zahra created history by securing a bronze medal in the women’s 60kg boxing event at the Commonwealth Games, becoming the first Pakistani woman ever to win a boxing medal at the prestigious multi-sport competition.
Her journey ended in the semi-finals after a defeat against a Canadian opponent. The Canadian boxer dominated the opening round with a 4-1 advantage, and the referee stopped the contest during the second round, ending Zahra’s hopes of reaching the final.
Despite the loss, Fatima Zahra’s semi-final appearance guaranteed her a bronze medal, marking a memorable achievement for Pakistan’s boxing history. It is also Pakistan’s first boxing medal at the Commonwealth Games since 2014.
Earlier in the tournament, Zahra impressed with a strong quarter-final victory over New Zealand’s Jordan Wilson in the women’s 60kg category, earning her place in the medal rounds.
