Bundibugyo Virus No Vaccine as Ebola Kills 101 in DRC

Bundibugyo Virus No Vaccine Raises Fear as DRC Ebola Outbreak Spreads Across 25 Health Zones

Congo – (Web Desk) – The Bundibugyo virus no vaccine situation is making the deadly Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo far more dangerous. Health authorities confirmed on Tuesday that 101 people have died since the outbreak was declared on May 15.

The DRC Health Ministry said the total number of confirmed cases has now reached 550. The overall death rate stands at 18.4%, which is a serious concern for health workers on the ground.

The outbreak has spread to 25 health zones across three provinces — Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu. Ituri remains the worst-hit area, with 17 of the 25 affected zones located there.

Seven patients recovered in the past 24 hours, bringing total recoveries to 19. However, health teams say the weekly trend is still moving upward.

Officials warned that a recent small dip in case numbers may simply be due to delays in lab data, not an actual slowdown of the disease.

The Bundibugyo strain responsible for this outbreak is rare. There is no approved vaccine or treatment available for it, making response efforts far more difficult than past Ebola outbreaks.

Surveillance, case management, and community awareness drives are ongoing across all affected areas as authorities work to contain the spread.
