Murree Expressway van fire accident leaves families in grief as death toll rises

Murree – (Web Desk) – least 10 tourists lost their lives in a tragic Murree Expressway van fire accident near Khajut on Wednesday. The vehicle was carrying 23 members of the same family from Multan.

The tourist van was travelling at high speed when it hit a side wall. The crash triggered a fire in the engine area. Sadly, the sliding door got jammed, trapping passengers inside.

Motorway Police and Murree administration teams rushed to the scene. Rescue 1122, Forest Department officials, and Motorway Police all joined the relief operation.

The deputy commissioner confirmed that the van plunged into a ravine while taking a turn near Khajut. The victims included 10 children. The van had overturned onto the side where its door was located, blocking any escape.

All 23 passengers were from Multan. They had left for Murree at around 2am. Bodies and injured persons were shifted to nearby hospitals and PIMS in Islamabad.

A PIMS spokesperson said 10 injured passengers arrived at the hospital. Two of them were in critical condition.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy. She directed authorities to provide the best medical care to the injured and sought a full report on the incident.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire and the circumstances of the crash.
