Terror Attack On Bannu Police Post Leaves Twelve Dead Officers

BANNU: (Web Desk) – A deadly terrorist attack targeted the Fateh Khel Police Post in Bannu late Saturday night, where militants rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the facility, killing at least 12 police personnel and injuring several others.

Police officials said the blast caused the collapse of the building, trapping personnel under debris. Three injured officers were rescued alive from the wreckage, while search and rescue operations continued overnight to recover remaining victims.

According to the police, a total of around 15 personnel were initially affected, with casualties later rising as recovery efforts progressed. The post falls under the jurisdiction of Mandan police station, an area that has previously witnessed multiple militant attacks on police infrastructure and vehicles.

Deputy Inspector General Sajjad Khan visited the District Headquarters Hospital in Bannu to meet injured personnel. Speaking to the media, he said the morale of the police force remains high and vowed that militants would fail in their objectives.

He added that this attack would be treated as a turning point in the ongoing counterterrorism response, promising that those responsible would be brought to justice and eliminated from the region.

A police spokesperson confirmed that the attack began when militants rammed a vehicle filled with explosives into the police post and later opened fire as they attempted to storm the building. Emergency teams shifted bodies and injured personnel to the District Headquarters Hospital immediately after the incident.

Authorities have sealed off the area and launched a large-scale search operation. Initial reports suggested that a banned militant group claimed responsibility, though officials have not yet independently verified the claim.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sohail Afridi, strongly condemned the attack, expressing grief over the loss of lives and directing authorities to ensure the best medical care for the injured.

He described terrorism as a national challenge requiring unified action and said that the sacrifices of police and security forces would not be in vain. He reaffirmed the provincial government’s support for affected families and praised the role of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police in counterterrorism efforts.

DIG Sajjad Khan also reiterated that the attack would not weaken law enforcement resolve, stating that police operations against militants would continue until complete elimination of terrorism from the region.
