Aleem Khan Cuts Vacant Postal Service Positions, Saves Rs2.8 Billion Annually
Islamabad-(Staff Reporter): Privatization Minister Abdul Aleem Khan announced significant annual savings of Rs2.8 billion through the elimination of thousands of vacant positions within Pakistan Post. This move aligns with the government’s right-sizing initiative aimed at boosting the efficiency and sustainability of public services.
Speaking at a press conference, Khan shared that 3,616 unfilled positions have been cut from the postal department. Among the roles removed were 500 postman positions at scale 7, 458 mail clerks/porters at scale 2, 274 postal clerks at scale 9, and eight positions at scale 14. “I could have allocated these jobs within my constituency, which would have pleased many,” Khan noted, “but I chose to eliminate them for the greater good of the country.”
Khan explained that the vacant posts had become a burden on Pakistan Post, and their removal was essential for the organization’s long-term viability. Expressing concern over the postal department’s current financial state, he indicated that if performance targets are not met, staff may be reassigned to other departments to better utilize resources.

This cost-cutting move underscores the government’s commitment to public sector reform, focusing on streamlining operations and ensuring financial stability for essential services.
