National Women’s Conference Celebrates Economic Empowerment in Islamabad

PPAF and NCSW Collaborate to Celebrate International Women’s Day, Honoring Women’s Leadership and Economic Empowerment.

Islamabad: The Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) and the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW), in partnership with various governmental and non-governmental organizations, came together to host a National Women’s Conference on Economic Empowerment in Islamabad, marking the occasion of International Women’s Day. The event served as a platform to recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions of women from across Pakistan, particularly those from marginalized communities, towards sustainable economic growth and societal development.

One of the highlights of the conference was the presentation of the annual PPAF Amtul Raqeeb Awards to female community leaders, acknowledging their remarkable resilience and inspirational leadership within their communities. Additionally, special accolades were bestowed upon individuals for their outstanding commitment and innovation, setting a benchmark for excellence in their respective fields.

During his opening remarks, Nadir Gul Barech, CEO of PPAF, underscored the crucial role of gender equality in achieving sustainable development goals, emphasizing PPAF’s dedication to empowering women through various initiatives aimed at enhancing their access to financial resources and opportunities for skill development.

Nilofar Bakhtiar, Chairperson of NCSW and chief guest of the conference, emphasized the importance of empowering women to become leaders who can drive social and economic progress in Pakistan. She highlighted the necessity of equal opportunities and skill development for women, envisioning a future where women play a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s development narrative.

The event featured inspiring stories from successful women leaders, including former Inspector General of Police Helena Iqbal Saeed, Dr. Amena Hasan, Dr. Saima Afzal, and Dr. Bakhtawar Khalid, who shared their journeys to success despite facing challenges.

Highlighting the creativity and insight of young women, girl students from colleges in Islamabad and Rawalpindi presented performances themed around the Economic Empowerment of Women, receiving praise from the audience and judges for their talent and vision.

The conference served as a beacon of optimism, fostering dialogue and collaboration towards creating a more inclusive and equitable society where women are empowered to contribute meaningfully to Pakistan’s development and prosperity.
