ATC Orders Imaan Mazari Video Link Appearance With Husband Tomorrow

ATC – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – An anti-terrorism court in Islamabad has ordered an Imaan Mazari video link appearance, after jail staff failed to bring her and her husband to court in person on Friday.

The case was heard by ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Supra. It relates to an FIR filed at the Secretariat police station against the well-known lawyer and her husband, Hadi Ali Chattha.

Both were called to appear in person on Friday. But Adiala jail officials did not bring them to the courtroom. This left the judge with no choice but to push the hearing forward.

The judge gave clear instructions to jail staff. He told them to make sure both accused join tomorrow’s hearing through a video link instead.

“I am fixing the case for tomorrow. Both should be produced through video link,” the judge said during the short hearing.

This is not the first time the couple has faced court delays. Just last week, they were arrested again and sent back to Adiala jail. This happened only hours after the Supreme Court had granted them bail in a separate matter.

Police sources say the fresh case includes serious claims. These include charges linked to anti-state statements, incitement, and interfering in government matters.

On the very same day the couple was rearrested, the Supreme Court had also suspended their earlier prison sentences. That decision came in a case tied to controversial tweets. The top court set bail at two hundred thousand rupees each. This bail will stay valid until the Islamabad High Court gives its final ruling.

The couple’s legal troubles began earlier this year. In January, a district court in Islamabad handed both of them seventeen-year prison terms. The sentence came under different sections of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act. This ruling arrived just one day after their arrest in another case.

Soon after, the couple took their fight to the Islamabad High Court. They filed an appeal against the harsh sentence in early February.

Going back further, the original case was registered by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency. Officials booked the couple under Sections 9, 10, 11, and 26 of the Peca law. The FIR claimed they tried to spread division through posts made on social media, based on language and ethnic lines.

The case has drawn wide attention across legal and rights groups in Pakistan. Many see it as part of a larger pattern of legal action against the couple this year.

For now, all eyes are on Saturday’s hearing. The court has made its stance clear. Jail authorities must ensure both Mazari and Chattha appear through video link, without further delay.

This ongoing legal battle continues to raise questions. Many are watching closely to see how the Islamabad High Court will eventually rule on the couple’s appeal.
