Hamas Clears Path for Gaza Technocratic Committee
Gaza Technocratic Committee to Take Over Civilian Rule
Gaza vs Hamas – (Web Desk) – Hamas has taken a major step back from ruling Gaza, clearing space for a new Gaza technocratic committee to take charge of daily life in the territory.
The group announced on Monday that it is dissolving the body that has run Gaza for almost twenty years. This opens the door for a team of trained experts, not fighters or politicians, to manage the strip going forward.
Mohammed al-Farra, who led the outgoing emergency committee, has stepped down from his post. Hamas said his decision was meant to smooth the handover of power to the new team.
The group taking over is called the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, or NCAG. It was set up by the Board of Peace, a body US President Donald Trump created when he helped broker the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel last October.
A Hamas spokesman said the move is meant to take away any excuse Israel might use to keep military action going in Gaza. He added that Hamas is ready to hand over its duties to the new committee as soon as possible.
Other Palestinian factions already knew this was coming. They met with Hamas in Cairo and welcomed the plan, calling it a real step toward letting the new committee finally start its work.
Still, big questions remain unresolved. Hamas has not agreed to give up its weapons, and it wants a full Palestinian administration in place first. Israel, for its part, does not want Hamas back in charge, but it also does not want the Ramallah based Palestinian Authority stepping in right now either.
The NCAG is led by Ali Shaath, a Palestinian official with a background in public administration. His team has stayed outside Gaza for months because Israel objected to letting them enter.
Talks between Hamas and mediators in Cairo have centered on the next stage of the ceasefire deal. The first stage already brought the release of the remaining Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.
The second stage, covering Hamas laying down its weapons and Israeli troops pulling back, has been stuck for months. Israeli forces now hold close to seventy percent of Gaza, more ground than before.
For now, Gaza’s political future sits at the center of these talks. Whether the new committee can truly take charge may depend on how quickly these disputes get settled.
