iPhone 18 may miss advanced Siri AI features

Standard iPhone 18 models may lack premium Siri AI tools

WASHINGTON: (News Desk) – Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 lineup may create a wider gap between its premium and standard models, as reports suggest that the regular iPhone 18 could miss two of the company’s most advanced Siri-powered AI features.

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and its long-rumoured foldable iPhone later this year. The standard iPhone 18 and lower-priced iPhone 18e are reportedly likely to arrive in spring 2027.

The base iPhone 18 models are expected to receive a memory upgrade from 8GB to 9GB RAM. However, reports indicate that this may still fall short of the 12GB RAM requirement for Apple’s AFM Core Advanced on-device AI model.

The AI model is said to power Advanced Dictation Preview, a feature designed to improve voice typing through automatic punctuation and capitalization. It also supports Expressive Siri Voices, which aims to make Siri sound more natural, expressive and conversational.

At present, the features are reportedly limited to devices carrying 12GB RAM, including the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air. The iPhone 16 Pro and standard iPhone 17, despite having 8GB RAM, are said to be unable to run these tools.

If Apple maintains the same hardware requirement, the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e may also be excluded from these advanced AI features, giving the Pro lineup a major software advantage.

Apple has not officially announced specifications for the iPhone 18 series. However, Kuo expects the Pro variants and Apple’s anticipated foldable handset to retain 12GB RAM, allowing them to support the company’s latest on-device AI capabilities.

The difference could encourage buyers to choose higher-end models, though rising memory prices may also be influencing Apple’s hardware decisions. Reports suggest the iPhone 18 Pro models could be priced around $200 higher than their predecessors, while Apple is also exploring memory-chip supplies from Chinese manufacturer CXMT to address supply pressures.
