Abbas, Jamal return as Pakistan revamp pace attack

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – Pakistan have finalised their pace attack for the upcoming Test tours of the West Indies and England, selecting four specialist fast bowlers alongside one fast-bowling all-rounder following consultations between the team management and the selection committee.

The specialist pacers included in the squad are Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Abbas, Khurram Shehzad and uncapped Ubaid Shah, while Aamer Jamal returns as the team’s fast-bowling all-rounder.

Meanwhile, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Hasan Ali and Hammad Butt, who featured in Pakistan’s squad for the Bangladesh series, have been left out of the touring party.

Twenty-year-old Ubaid Shah has earned his maiden Test call-up after impressive domestic performances. The right-arm pacer from Lower Dir has claimed 72 wickets in 16 first-class matches at an average of 25.20. He is also the younger brother of Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah.

Veteran seamer Mohammad Abbas is the most experienced pace bowler in the squad. The 36-year-old has taken 110 wickets in 29 Test matches at an outstanding average of 23.23.

Mohammad Ali also returns to the national side after last appearing against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi in September 2024. The 33-year-old has represented Pakistan in four Tests, taking six wickets.

Khurram Shehzad, the 26-year-old fast bowler from Mandi Bahauddin, has established himself with 28 wickets in seven Tests at an average of 27.39 and completes the four-man pace attack.

Fast-bowling all-rounder Aamer Jamal makes his comeback after last playing a Test against South Africa in Cape Town in January 2025. The Mianwali-born cricketer has scored 352 runs and claimed 21 wickets in eight Test appearances for Pakistan.
