Speaking during a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance, chaired by MNA Syed Naveed Qamar, the FBR chairman disclosed that a large majority of taxpayers were not accurately reporting their earnings.
Langrial stated that approximately 98.9 percent of filers deliberately underreported their income, while nearly 80 percent declared ownership of high-value properties in their tax returns, highlighting significant discrepancies in tax documentation.

In response to these findings, the FBR has decided to introduce a faceless tax filing system aimed at enhancing transparency and reducing opportunities for manipulation.
According to the chairman, the new system will eliminate direct interaction between taxpayers and tax officials, helping streamline the filing process and minimize the chances of undue influence or discretionary practices.
The proposed reforms are part of broader efforts by the tax authority to improve compliance, expand the tax base, and strengthen revenue collection through greater use of technology and data-driven monitoring.
