PCB Central Contracts Face Major Overhaul Before New Cycle

Big Changes Coming to PCB Central Contracts — Who Stays and Who Goes?

PCB – (Web Desk) – PCB central contracts are heading into a major restructuring phase, with the new cycle set to begin on July 1, 2025. Sources close to the board confirmed that large-scale changes are on the way, affecting several established names in the national setup.

The current financial model has been in place since 2023, introduced during former PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf’s time in office. It has remained untouched under the present chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, but that is all about to change as the model expires on June 30.

Preliminary discussions are already underway behind closed doors. However, the final call on the new financial structure will rest entirely with Chairman Naqvi, signaling that the board wants a fresh direction going forward.

Last year, 30 cricketers received central contracts, but notably, not a single player was placed in Category A — a first in recent memory. The upcoming contracts are expected to be strictly merit-based, with fitness and recent performances playing a decisive role.

Among those at risk, names like Mohammad Nawaz, Abdullah Shafique, Faheem Ashraf, Hussain Talat, and Khushdil Shah are unlikely to retain their spots. Their inclusion appears doubtful based on current standing and form.

On the brighter side, domestic performers Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal are being seriously considered for inclusion. Their consistent showing at the domestic level has caught the selectors’ attention at the right time.
