5G Trials Gilgit-Baltistan: The Wait Is Finally Over
Policy Approved, 5G Trials Gilgit-Baltistan Set to Begin Soon
Islamabad – (Web Desk) – The long wait is ending. 5G trials Gilgit-Baltistan are now officially on track. The policy directives have been approved, and telecom companies will soon begin testing 5G services across the region.
Earlier this year, Pakistan launched its 5G spectrum auction. However, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir were left out of the first phase. This created a digital gap that needed urgent attention.
Caretaker IT Minister Ghulam Abbas took the matter seriously. He personally met with PTA Chairman Major General (retd) Hafeez-ur-Rehman and Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja. He pushed hard for GB’s inclusion in the 5G rollout.
His efforts paid off. The Gilgit-Baltistan Council Secretariat prepared a formal summary for policy approval. The Ministry of Law and Justice reviewed it. The Ministry of IT approved it. It then moved to the Prime Minister, who chairs the GB Council.
Council members approved the summary through circulation. The Governor of Gilgit-Baltistan also gave his official endorsement. All major hurdles are now cleared.
The PTA has already prepared its policy directive for the trial phase. Telecom operators will now run 5G tests across the region. Once the trials succeed, a full 5G spectrum auction for GB will follow.
Experts believe 5G will transform the region. Faster internet means better tourism services, stronger businesses, and improved daily life for local communities.
