Davis Cup Juniors – (Web Desk) – Pakistan is heading to Kazakhstan for the Davis Cup Juniors. The tournament will be held in Shymkent from May 16 to 24.
The Pakistan Tennis Federation recently held selection trials at the PTF Tennis Complex. The trials ran from March 30 to April 2. Twelve junior players took part and competed hard for a spot in the national team.
After the trials, three players made the final cut. They are Abubakar Talha, Hassan Usmani, and Zohaib Afzal Malik.
Abubakar Talha is the top ranked junior in the country. He was given a direct entry without going through the trials. This was because of his strong performances at both national and international level. He has won titles at ATF and ITF junior events and is widely seen as one of Pakistan’s best young tennis players right now.
Zohaib Afzal Malik had a brilliant trial. He did not lose a single match throughout the process. Hassan Usmani also stayed unbeaten during the trials. Both players showed great form and fully deserved their places in the squad. Zohaib studies at LGS Phase 5 and is supported by SA Group.
All three players train at ACE Tennis Academy. They thanked the coaching team there for the hard work and support. They also gave special credit to Aisam ul Haq Qureshi who owns the academy. His guidance has played a big role in shaping their careers.
