LRH Newborn Missing: Family and Police Differ Over What Happened
A Charsadda family says their baby vanished from the gynaecology ward, while police say the mother handed the child to a woman in a white burqa.
Peshawar – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – The LRH newborn missing case has created worry in Peshawar. A baby born at Lady Reading Hospital is reported to have disappeared, and the family and police are telling different stories.
Hashmat Ali, who lives in Shabqadar, Charsadda, spoke to Geo News about the incident. He said his child was born at the hospital a day earlier.
He claimed that hospital staff asked the women of the family to leave the gynaecology room. When they came back, the baby was no longer there.
Hashmat said the family reported the matter at the hospital’s police post. A daily diary entry was made, but he said police were not registering a first information report, known as an FIR.
He also made a serious complaint about the hospital staff. According to him, a nurse in the gynaecology ward blamed the family for making the baby disappear.
“Who could make their own child disappear?” he asked. He demanded that the newborn be found and returned as soon as possible.
A spokesperson for Lady Reading Hospital said an inquiry had started. The spokesperson added that police were also looking into the matter and hoped those involved would be traced soon.
Police gave a different version of events. They said the baby’s mother handed the child to a woman in a white burqa, and that she did so willingly.
Police said this woman stayed in the gynaecology ward for around three hours. They added that the baby’s maternal aunt was also present at the time.

According to police, the mother was asked to file a report but refused. They said she described the matter as a personal family issue.
This is where the two accounts clash. The father says the baby went missing and wants action. Police say the mother gave the child to the woman herself.
Video footage obtained by Geo News adds to the story. It shows a woman carrying a baby as she walks away from the hospital.
The footage has not yet cleared up the main questions. It is not confirmed who the woman is, where she took the baby, or why she was in the ward for so long.
Police say their investigation is still going on. For now, there is no official word on whether the baby has been found.
The case also raises questions about security in hospital wards. Maternity and gynaecology areas are busy, and strangers can walk in unnoticed during visiting hours.
Families often depend on the hospital to keep newborns safe. Any gap in this system can put a child in danger and leave parents deeply distressed.
Many people will now wait for the results of the hospital inquiry. They will also watch whether police register an FIR and use the video to trace the woman.
Until the facts are confirmed, it is important not to blame any person or group. The priority is the safe recovery of the child.
This report will be updated as more details come in about the LRH newborn missing case.
