Later, a broader high-level meeting brought together key provincial and federal leaders to deliberate on petroleum pricing and subsidy reforms. Among the participants were Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Murad Ali Shah, and Sarfraz Bugti, along with other senior officials who joined both in person and virtually. The discussion focused on replacing general fuel subsidies with targeted support systems aimed at helping vulnerable segments of society more effectively.
The leaders emphasized the importance of cooperation between the federal government and provinces. Different ideas were presented on how subsidies could be delivered using digital platforms, existing databases, and cash transfer programs. The goal was to ensure that financial assistance reaches those who truly need it, while also maintaining fiscal discipline and avoiding unnecessary strain on the national budget.
Transparency, accountability, and strong governance were highlighted as essential elements for any new subsidy system. Participants agreed that a balanced approach was needed—one that protects low-income households while ensuring economic stability. They also stressed the need for flexibility so that provinces can implement solutions according to their capacities and local conditions.
By the end of the meetings, it was decided that a working framework for targeted subsidies would be developed and shared among all stakeholders. The discussions reflected a collective effort to address economic challenges through unity, careful planning, and practical solutions for the benefit of the people of Pakistan.
