OGDC Signs Water Injection Deal with SNF

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has signed a landmark agreement with France-based SNF S.A. for the installation and operation of advanced Water Injection Systems (WIS) at the Kunnar and Pasakhi oil fields in Hyderabad district, Sindh.

The signing ceremony, held at OGDC Headquarters in Islamabad, was attended by Federal Minister for Energy (Petroleum Division) Ali Pervaiz Malik, OGDC Managing Director and CEO Ahmed Hayat Lak, and French Ambassador to Pakistan Nicolas Galey, along with senior officials from both organizations.

The project aims to enhance reservoir pressure and optimize oil recovery using advanced water injection technology and SNF’s global expertise. It will be executed in three phases. The first phase, spanning nine months, will involve mobilisation, installation, commissioning, and testing of the facilities. This will be followed by a two-year operations and maintenance (O&M) period, during which SNF will provide technical services and structured training to OGDC professionals. After the O&M phase, operational control and technology will be fully transferred to OGDC. The installed facilities are designed to operate for approximately 20 years.

According to projections, the initiative is expected to increase oil production by around 9 million barrels and boost gas output by 3 billion cubic feet, while improving the recovery factor of the fields by 8 to 10 percent. The project is estimated to generate approximately USD 460 million in additional revenue over the life of the fields, offering strong economic returns.

Beyond financial gains, the project carries notable environmental benefits. By reinjecting treated produced water back into reservoir zones, it ensures safe disposal and reduces environmental risks, aligning operations with international sustainability standards.
