Islamabad thunderstorm warning: Flights are canceled or delayed
Heavy rains and storms in Islamabad trigger widespread flight cancellations and long delays for travelers across the country.
Islamabad – (Special Correspondent / Web Desk) – Heavy rains and a thunderstorm alert in Islamabad, along with administrative problems, caused eight flights to be canceled and thirtyfour others to be delayed on Friday, causing severe disruptions to air travel and affecting schedules nationwide.
Following a period of intense rain in the capital, authorities in Islamabad issued a thunderstorm alert for flights. Four flights operated by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) between Gilgit and Islamabad (PK601, PK602, PK603, and PK604) were canceled. Two PIA flights between Karachi and Turbat (PK501 and PK502), as well as flights from Islamabad to Sukkur (PK632) and Sukkur to Karachi (PK636), were also canceled.
Flight delays ranged from one to nine hours, disrupting passengers’ travel plans nationwide.
- Karachi–Islamabad flights PK300 and PK301 were delayed by one and a half hours.
- Islamabad private airline flight PA201 faced a major delay of nine hours.
- Five flights between Karachi and Islamabad were delayed by one to nine hours.
- Five flights from Karachi Airport were delayed by one to four hours.
Lahore Airport was among the worst affected, with 19 flights delayed between one and 10 hours. A private airline’s Lahore–Abu Dhabi flight PA430 was delayed by as long as 10 hours.

Meanwhile, four flights of private airlines between Karachi and Lahore were also delayed by one and a half to four hours, further compounding disruptions for domestic and international travellers.
With delays stretching up to 10 hours, passengers at major airports, including Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi, were left stranded, facing extended waiting times. Airport officials attributed the situation to a combination of bad weather in the capital and operational challenges affecting multiple routes.
