Controversy Erupts Over Fakhar Zaman’s Dismissal in Asia Cup Clash Against India
The call triggered immediate backlash from cricket experts, former players, and fans.
DUBAI: A controversial decision during the high-stakes Asia Cup Super Four match between Pakistan and India has sparked criticism, after Pakistani opener Fakhar Zaman was given out under questionable circumstances.
Fakhar Zaman, who had scored 15 runs, was ruled out on a delivery by Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya. The on-field umpires referred the decision to the third umpire, following a low catch behind the stumps.
However, slow-motion replays shown during the broadcast appeared to clearly indicate that the ball had touched the ground before being collected by the Indian wicketkeeper. Despite the visual evidence, the third umpire upheld the appeal and declared Fakhar out — a decision that left the batter visibly stunned.

The call triggered immediate backlash from cricket experts, former players, and fans.
Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir took to X (formerly Twitter), stating bluntly: “Fakhar Zaman was not out.”
Ex-cricketer Fawad Alam also voiced his disapproval, writing: “It feels like we are playing against 14 players instead of 11. Fakhar Zaman was clearly not out.”
The decision even caught the attention of Pakistani pop star Ali Zafar, who criticized the umpiring call, joining the chorus of voices questioning the fairness of the judgment.
The incident has added to growing concerns about inconsistent officiating in major cricket tournaments, particularly in matches involving arch-rivals Pakistan and India, where every decision is heavily scrutinized.
