Damascus: The Syrian government has declared the end of its large-scale military operation against supporters of the ousted President Bashar al-Assad after a deadly confrontation resulted in widespread casualties.
According to a foreign news agency, Syria’s Ministry of Defense announced yesterday that the operation against Assad’s militia has been completed. The ministry’s spokesperson stated that key government installations, buildings, and major highways have been freed from rebel control, and assured that the country would not be pushed back into civil war.
The operation has come after fierce clashes between Syrian security forces and Assad’s supporters, which have resulted in over 1,300 deaths in the past four days. Among the dead were 231 security personnel and 250 fighters loyal to Bashar al-Assad.
