Qatari Sheikh’s Car to Be Sold Over £460,000 Bill

London – (Special Correspondent/Web Desk) – A Qatari sheikh has been ordered to hand over his car after a London court ruled he owes one of the city’s most famous hotels nearly half a million pounds.

The Dorchester, a five-star hotel in Mayfair, took legal action against Sheikh Nasser bin Abdullah al-Thani, a member of Qatar’s ruling family, earlier this year. The hotel said he never paid for his room and other charges.

Court papers show the bill came to more than £458,000. That is an enormous sum, but it makes sense when you consider the hotel’s prices. Rooms at the Dorchester start around £1,000 a night, and some suites cost more than £8,000. The unpaid amount could cover months of stays in the hotel’s finest rooms.

In July, District Judge Michael Javaherian sided with the hotel. He gave staff permission to sell one of the sheikh’s cars to help cover the debt.

The vehicle in question is not flashy by his usual standards. It is a 2011 Fiat 500 Abarth Tributo Ferrari, a limited-edition hatchback with Ferrari styling touches. It is a fun car, but not a hugely expensive one.

Resale data shows this model has sold for a median price of around £23,500 since 2020. That is barely five percent of what the sheikh is said to owe. Selling the car will not come close to clearing the bill.

The sheikh did not show up for the court hearing. He also had no lawyers representing him at the time.

Since then, his legal team has pushed back. They told the Financial Times that he only recently found out about the case. They also claim the court papers were never properly delivered to him. Because of this, they plan to ask for the judgment to be cancelled.

There is more to this story than one unpaid bill. Al-Thani has a past connection to European football. He once served as vice-president of Malaga, the Spanish club where his father held the majority stake.

He also appears to enjoy an expensive lifestyle when it comes to cars. His social media has shown a Lamborghini Aventador at different points. He has also posted about a rare Mirage GT, a car based on the Porsche Carrera GT.

One old photo stands out now. Back in 2015, he shared a picture of his Lamborghini parked right outside the Dorchester, the very hotel now taking him to court.

For now, the case is not fully settled. The hotel has the court’s permission to sell the Fiat. But the sheikh’s lawyers are expected to challenge the ruling in the weeks ahead.

This story is a reminder that even wealthy guests can end up in legal trouble over unpaid bills. It also shows how far luxury hotels will go to recover what they are owed, even if it means taking a client’s car.
