Heinrich Klaasen Fined for Code of Conduct Breach in ODI Against Pakistan
Cape Town: South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen has been fined 15% of his match fee for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the second ODI against Pakistan in Cape Town on Thursday.
Klaasen was found guilty of violating Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which pertains to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.” The incident occurred after the final ball of the match when Klaasen, frustrated by his dismissal, kicked the stumps.
As a result of the breach, Klaasen has also received one demerit point added to his disciplinary record. This was Klaasen’s first offence within a 24-month period, meaning no suspension will apply at this stage. Klaasen accepted the charge and the proposed sanction from Richie Richardson, a member of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, so no formal hearing was necessary.
The charge was levied by the on-field umpires Alex Wharf and Lubabalo Gcuma, along with third umpire Nitin Menon and fourth umpire Allahuddien Palekar.
