Brazil Beat Scotland As Vinicius Continues Outstanding World Cup
Brazil Cruise Into Knockout Stage With Scotland Victory
Miami: (Web Desk) – Brazil secured top spot in Group C with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Scotland on Wednesday, as Vinicius Junior continued his outstanding FIFA World Cup campaign by scoring twice in Miami.
The Real Madrid star opened the scoring early in the match after capitalizing on a costly defensive mistake before adding a second goal in first-half stoppage time. Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha sealed the victory with Brazil’s third goal just after the hour mark.
The result ensured Brazil advanced to the Round of 32 as group winners, finishing ahead of Morocco on goal difference. Carlo Ancelotti’s side will now travel to Houston, Texas, where they are set to face the runners-up from Group F in the knockout stage.
Vinicius has emerged as one of the tournament’s standout performers, becoming the first Brazilian player since Ronaldo and Rivaldo in 2002 to score in all three World Cup group matches. With four goals, he is firmly in contention for the Golden Boot award.
Scotland struggled to recover from another early defensive lapse. Defender Scott McKenna lost possession inside his own penalty area in the seventh minute, allowing Vinicius to calmly round goalkeeper Angus Gunn and put Brazil ahead.
The South Americans dominated possession and chances throughout the match. Although Vinicius had another goal ruled out following a VAR review, Brazil remained in complete control and doubled their advantage before halftime through a powerful header from the winger.
Cunha added a third goal in the second half after excellent build-up play from Bruno Guimaraes, putting the result beyond doubt and highlighting Brazil’s attacking quality.

A major talking point came in the 76th minute when Neymar made his long-awaited return to international football. The Brazilian superstar received a warm reception from fans as he made his first appearance for the national team since October 2023 following a lengthy injury absence.
For Scotland, the defeat leaves qualification hopes hanging in the balance. Steve Clarke’s side finished third in Group C with three points and must now wait to discover whether their record is enough to secure a place among the tournament’s best third-placed teams.
Brazil, meanwhile, head into the knockout rounds full of confidence after an unbeaten group-stage campaign and another convincing display from one of the tournament favourites.
