ISLAMABAD: The upcoming ICC Champions Trophy is expected to be hosted across three venues, with potential match relocations from Rawalpindi to Lahore and Karachi. Sources suggest that the Rawalpindi Stadium might not meet the required production standards, primarily due to the lack of Spider Cameras, which could impact the quality of broadcast coverage. Without Spider Cameras and drone coverage, the broadcast might fall short of the high standards expected for ICC events like the World Cup or Champions Trophy.
ICC and other stakeholders have emphasized that production quality is non-negotiable, and they are unwilling to compromise on this aspect. Following the BCCI’s decision not to host matches in India, there are plans to schedule India’s games in Dubai, although this could drive up costs for the event. ICC officials have stated that managing four venues simultaneously would significantly increase the overall expenses.
According to sources, the budget for camera installations, hotel accommodations, travel, and branding would all rise if the number of venues is expanded. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) remains eager to hold matches in Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Karachi, but these logistical challenges are being carefully reviewed.
The ICC is expected to announce the final schedule for the Champions Trophy today, after having planned an official release on December 14. The governing body will finalize the venues and schedule after consulting with stakeholders to ensure that all parties are on board.

Sources also reveal that a broad agreement has been reached between the PCB and BCCI concerning ICC events through to 2027. However, the PCB has yet to make an official statement on this matter.
The final decision regarding the venues and schedule will likely have significant implications for the tournament’s operations and financial planning.
