Travis Head Hails Jasprit Bumrah as One of Cricket’s Greatest Fast Bowlers

Despite the heavy loss in the first Test, Head is confident that Australia has quickly moved on from the defeat.

New Delhi: Australia’s top-order batter Travis Head has lauded India’s Jasprit Bumrah, calling him “one of the greatest fast bowlers to play the game” ahead of the second Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Bumrah, who is standing in as captain for India in the series, put in a remarkable performance during the first Test, taking eight wickets in a dominant display of fast bowling. His efforts helped India secure a commanding 295-run victory over Australia in Perth on November 25. Bumrah is expected to hand the captaincy back to regular skipper Rohit Sharma for the second Test, which will be a day-night match in Adelaide starting Friday.

Speaking on the eve of the Test, Head praised Bumrah’s skill and described the experience of facing him as a memorable challenge. “Jasprit is probably going to go down as one of the greatest fast bowlers to play the game,” Head said. “We’re finding that at the moment – how challenging he can be, and it’s nice to play against that.” Head, who was one of Bumrah’s victims in the second innings of the first Test, added that it would be a story to tell future generations: “It’s going to be nice to look back at your career and tell the grandkids that you faced him.”

Head, who top-scored for Australia with 89 in their second innings at Perth, will be hoping for another strong performance at his home ground in Adelaide. However, he remained focused on the task ahead, saying, “It’s just another week – go and prepare and go in fresh and hopefully I can roll out the same sort of performances.”

Despite the heavy loss in the first Test, Head is confident that Australia has quickly moved on from the defeat. “It’s a pretty easy one as such to move on and get over, and start talking about what’s coming,” he said.
