ISLAMABAD: (Staff Reporter) – One Rangers personnel was martyred and another seriously injured after an angry mob allegedly opened fire on security forces during a road clearance operation in Azad Kashmir.
The incident occurred during efforts to clear the Sarsawa-Tarar Khal Road, where, according to officials, snipers within the mob fired at law enforcement personnel. Rangers soldier Sepoy Shahnawaz was struck in the chest and succumbed to his injuries, while Lance Naik Bilal sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder.
Sepoy Shahnawaz, who lost his life in the attack, hailed from Khairpur, Sindh.
Security forces are continuing the clearance operation to reopen blocked roads and restore movement in the affected areas. Local residents have been facing serious difficulties because of disrupted transportation and reported shortages of essential food supplies.
Security and defence experts have described the reported use of firearms, modern weapons and explosives against law enforcement personnel as a serious and organized attack. They stressed that the sacrifices of security forces highlight the importance of maintaining the writ of the state and ensuring the safety and movement of civilians.
