PTI to hold seven workers’ conventions in Punjab,

ISLAMABAD;The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) issued notices to senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Barrister Gohar, Omar Ayub and Raoof Hasan over the issue of uploading controversial video by the official account of PTI founder Imran Khan.

All three bigwigs of PTI have been summoned to appear before FIA on Tuesday at 11.am.

“An attempt was made to incite the people against the state and its institutions by uploading the video through official account of PTI founder,” said the notice issued by the FIA.

According to FIA sources, on May 26, a propaganda video was tweeted with reference to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from the official X handle of PTI’s founder.“An enquiry has been initiated regarding misuse of verified X [Twitter] account of Mr. Imran Khan, Founder PTI through which highly obnoxious and inciting content against state institutions is shared which is likely to cause fear or alarm in the public and may induce/provoke anyone to commit an offence against the state or the state institution or public tranquillity,” said the allegation’s gist.

A tweet from his account surfaced in which he urged people to read the Hamoodur Rehman Commission report on the 1971 debacle.

The FIA cyber wing had decided to conduct an inquiry into the uploading of a ‘propaganda’ video featuring Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The institution has claimed the content was allegedly shared from Khan’s profile.

Khan is serving out his sentences in the cypher and the iddat cases at the Punjab’s jail. On Thursday, he appeared through a video link in the Supreme Court in the National Accountability Bureau law amendment case.

According to the plea, Khan allegedly built a false narrative and spread misinformation against state institutions of Pakistan, including the army, through his X account having more than 20 million followers.

The wing contended that the video was “misleading, intimidating, and amounts to inciting an officer/soldier of armed forces of Pakistan to mutiny.”

It alleged that the post was purportedly a mischievous act of subversion within the various ranks of the armed forces of Pakistan and created a rift among the pillars of the state.

The first convention will be held in Kasur on June 5, second in Gujranwala, third in Bahawalpur on June 8, fourth, fifth and sixth in Lahore, Sahiwal and Sialkot on June 9, while the seventh one in Sargodha on June 15.

The PTI’s high command directed all party workers to attend the conventions.

On the other hand, in view of its workers’ convention in Lahore, the PTI has submitted an application to the deputy commissioner.

PTI Lahore President Chaudhry Asghar Gujjar and Hafiz Zeeshan Rasheed filed the application.
