Gas Theft Crackdown: Significant Progress Made in Punjab, KP, and Islamabad

LAHORE: In a resolute effort to curb gas theft, the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has intensified its crackdown across several regions, yielding promising results. The latest operation saw the disconnection of 138 illicit connections and the imposition of fines totaling Rs 5.42 million.

In Lahore, the regional team took decisive action by disconnecting 12 connections involved in illegal gas consumption. Additionally, they lodged one FIR against a gas thief and imposed a fine of Rs 0.5 million on the culprits. Multan witnessed a similar crackdown, with six connections severed and fines amounting to Rs 0.1 million levied against gas pilferers.

Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, and Sahiwal were not exempt from the sweep either. The regional teams in these areas disconnected a total of 19 connections involved in gas theft, while imposing fines ranging from Rs 13,000 to Rs 0.41 million on violators.

However, the most significant action unfolded in Karak and Peshawar, where the regional team disconnected a whopping 100 connections engaged in illegal gas usage. Alongside these disconnections, six FIRs were lodged against gas thieves, and fines amounting to Rs 4.3 million were imposed, marking a significant blow against the perpetrators of this unlawful activity.

The concerted efforts of SNGPL, supported by regional authorities, underscore a firm commitment to ensuring fair distribution and preventing losses due to gas theft. The crackdown not only safeguards the integrity of the gas supply system but also protects consumers from potential hazards associated with unauthorized gas connections.
