RAWALPINDI: (News Desk) – Islamabad Electric Supply Company has intensified its crackdown on electricity theft using Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), with multiple cases detected through its automated monitoring system.
Chief Executive Chaudhry Khalid Mahmood said that AMI meters have the capability to automatically identify power theft and meter tampering. He revealed that the AMI Operation Room recently flagged several cases in areas including Tarnol, Gulzar-e-Quaid, Seham, Gangal, Dhoke Kala Khan, Swan, Rawat, and Adiala.

Following these alerts, relevant SDO offices acted swiftly by disconnecting electricity supply to the involved consumers through the AMI system. Detection teams also imposed fines and initiated legal action by requesting FIR registrations at concerned police stations.
The CEO noted that the deployment of smart metering technology will significantly enhance efforts to curb electricity theft in line with government directives. He also commended the performance of Project Director AMI Mohsin Raza Gilani and his team for their effective role in identifying violations.
IESCO reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy and commitment to eliminating electricity theft across its operational areas.
